Food Branding Agency: Brand Identity in Food
Food branding is the combination of values, vision and design that makes a brand memorable to the consumer and credible to commercial partners.
Erbacipollina is the vertical food branding agency. We've worked exclusively with Food & Beverage companies since 2010, building their brand identity with an understanding of shelf dynamics, buyer needs and product categories.
Our starting point is Food Sensitivity, the feel for food built by working inside the industry. It's what lets us interpret a food brand before we even start designing it.

Our Food Branding and Positioning Strategy services
Effective food branding rests on market analysis and competitor and target audience research before it rests on aesthetics.
First we understand how the brand is perceived today, where competitors are playing and who really chooses the product. Only then do we design the visual and verbal elements that shape the identity.
(Design)
Food Brand Design and Coordinated Visual Identity
Food brand design translates the company's values into a consistent, recognizable visual system.
Color palette, logotype, corporate applications — every element tells the same brand story in the same voice.
The foundation is the food logo design, the mark everything else rests on, which then extends across all the brand's food graphic design.
(Packaging)
Packaging Design and Product Communication
Packaging is the main point of contact between the brand and the person choosing it. That's where the few seconds of the purchase decision play out.
That's why the identity needs to come through on the packs and labels, combining strong visual impact with clear nutritional and legal information.

Food Copywriting and Tone of Voice for the Brand
Every Food & Beverage company needs a recognizable tone of voice, one capable of telling the story of raw material origins, tradition or innovation, without falling into the formulas that make products look too similar on the shelf.
We carry that language consistently across every material.

(The stages)
The stages of Food Branding
The process we follow to build or strengthen a Food & Beverage company's brand rests on three proprietary tools that turn intuition into a repeatable method:
- FBBP®, the framework we use to build the brand.
- Food Buyer Personas, to profile who's buying.
- The Flavour Index, the observatory that interprets market signals.
| Stage | What we define |
|---|---|
| Company and brand analysis | How the brand is perceived today |
| Market and competitor analysis | Where competitors operate and with what levers |
| Food Buyer Personas | Who really chooses the product |
| Value map | What makes the brand relevant |
| Food Brand Positioning | The space we want to occupy |
| Brand values | What the company believes in |
| Food Brand Strategy | How the identity reaches people |
(Why us)
Why choose a specialized food branding agency?
Because generic marketing doesn't grasp the complexity of the food & beverage industry.
Generalist agencies know how to do branding, but they may not fully understand retail distribution flows, labeling regulations or a buyer's purchasing logic.
This vertical focus runs through every project. We also demonstrate it through the editorial products we produce — our Newsletter since 2013 and Daily Food News since 2021, read daily by food industry professionals.
We're consultants, not just executors. We speak our mind even when it diverges from the brief, because expertise is the value we bring.
A food brand identity project with Erbacipollina leaves you with concrete assets:
- The brand platform, with positioning, values and value proposition.
- Naming, when the project calls for it.
- The coordinated visual system: logo, palette, typefaces and applications.
- The brand book with usage guidelines.
- The operational rollout (packaging, website, e-commerce, social, email marketing).
(Projects)
Two projects that speak for us
For Patarò we built the brand identity from scratch: new positioning, logo restyling, pack system, website, social strategy, content and recipes.
For Melegatti we led the restyling of the "Melegatti 1894" logo and the entire holiday line, working with the brand's historic blue and gold, the 125th-anniversary seal, and storytelling carried onto the pack.
You'll find our other work in our portfolio.

Frequently asked questions
What does a Food Branding Agency do?
A food branding agency builds a company's brand strategy, positioning, and visual and verbal identity for Food & Beverage businesses.
What is Food Brand Identity?
Food brand identity is the set of elements that make a food brand recognizable, from values to logo, from colors to tone of voice, all the way to packaging. It's how a food company presents itself and how it's perceived by the consumer.
What's the difference between Food Branding and Packaging Design?
Food branding defines the brand's overall strategy and identity. Packaging design applies those principles to the pack. Packaging is one of branding's tools, not a substitute for it.
Why work with a vertical Food Branding agency instead of a generalist one?
A vertical agency knows the distribution channels, labeling regulations and purchasing dynamics of the food & beverage industry. This expertise makes the brand strategy both creative and workable on the shelf and in relationships with distribution.
What does the Food Brand Design process involve?
The process includes market analysis, target audience research, logo design, color and font selection, and creation of visual guidelines. The system is then applied to packaging, website and materials, for consistent communication.
Why is Brand Identity important for a food company?
It allows a brand to stand out from competitors both on the shelf and in the consumer's mind. A consistent identity builds trust, supports premium price positioning and eases entry into distribution channels such as retail (GDO) and HoReCa.
